'Clarity'

'Clarity'

This painting is a celebration of my return to myself, created on the four-year anniversary of my sobriety. I decided to abstain from alcohol after realizing that I was missing out on some important connections because I was not present for them. Connections with my kids, my partner, my friends, and with my own spirit.
I chose a dark red to represent how drinking made me feel out of control. Of course, there were and are many temptations constantly challenging my commitment, and I painted them as dark stripes, however there is light seeping into the spaces between them. The painting’s vibrant pink and blue hues express how I feel about being fully present today, with beautiful days full of clarity and connection ahead.
Sobriety has been a doorway to new beginnings, and I am filled with gratitude that it is open to me.
