This painting tells the story of a labyrinth, that complicated and irregular network of passages which makes it difficult to find one’s way. Yet it is not a maze, because there is only one path, one route to the centre where reward awaits. I was thinking of the spiritual labyrinth of life, the journey we all take from birth to death. Along the demanding path we stumble, fall, then call on ourselves to persevere. For those among us who seek it, we are awakened by the complexity at every turn. The spark of spiritual awareness guides us to the hidden glory of peaceful acceptance at the centre of all things.
