This painting is an ode to my favourite sounds in nature, which all happen to be characterized as Pink Noise. I painted it during a blustery winter storm from the cosy haven of my studio, where the steady drum of the rain soothed me.

Pink noise is a constant in the background, filtering out the distractions of jarring sounds that pollute our peace. It consists of all frequencies the human ear can detect but is distributed more powerfully at the lower-frequency end of the spectrum. This gives it that rumbling depth we hear when waves crash on a beach, or winds rustle through trees. Pink noise is also one of the most common sounds in biological systems, like the beating of your lover’s heart.
