This painting is a project that I started with something specific in mind. We are about to embark on a trip overseas. One of the places I’m looking forward to is Liverpool, home of the Beatles. I knew the title of the painting and with that in mind, everything else happened around it. This painting takes me into the depths in an exploration of carbon black. I rarely use this colour but wanted to experiment, and the image of being far beneath the surface, away from all light fed my discovery. The contrast of sunshine guided me home again.
