'Floating Island Dream'
'Floating Island Dream'
Floating Island Dream’ (2021), 120cm x 120cm acrylic on canvas, pen. This painting is a rumination on one of my favourite travel memories. We were visiting Fiji when our guide, Bobo told us he would take us to a very special spot the next day. That night, I dreamed of the place where he then brought us – a floating island in the middle of the ocean that got bigger and bigger until as if by miracle we could stand on it. We spent the day snorkelling and fishing, roasting our catch over the fire Bobo made. We gave him a handmade fishing lure as a symbol of our gratitude, which is the red in my painting. He then thanked us in a traditional Fijian way by praying to the Gods. It brought me to tears. I still try to go back there in my dreams. (Tasmanian oak frame)
