‘The Fishing Net’ (2022), 61.0cm x 76.2cm/ 24 x 30” acrylic on canvas, mixed media. This painting yearns to protect and defend something near to my heart: the wildness of our oceans. I think I must have been a sea creature or a mariner in a past life, because there is nothing that speaks peace to my soul like the deep blue ocean. And I delight in her bounty; beautiful fresh fish and gratefully devoured in my house. Yet there are many threats to the health of our oceans, including the devastating effect of damaged nets being discarded, and the waste of bycatch, beautiful aquatic life getting accidentally caught up in fishing nets. We should all protect and defend our oceans with our awareness and consumption choices, to ensure they remain forever wild. (Tasmanian Oak Frame)
