'Swings and Roundabouts I'
Swings and Roundabouts I (2023), 80cm x 80 cm acrylic on panels.
This diptych is all about life’s back-and-forth — you win some, you lose some, and sometimes you just spin around in circles trying to make sense of it all. That’s where the title comes from: Swings and Roundabouts is a British phrase that basically means things balance out in the end. And honestly? That’s kind of how this piece came together.
I was thinking about movement and structure — like steel frames at a playground or the skeleton of a building mid-construction. There’s a push-and-pull to it. Sharp lines and bold shapes give it a bit of an industrial edge, while the loops and curves soften things up — kind of like swinging high, then slowly spinning down.
You’ll spot some tension in the contrasts, but there’s also a sense of play. These two pieces are different, but connected — like two parts of the same thought. It’s not meant to be literal, just a bit of a visual ride..
