'Kelp Forrest'
Kelp Forrest (2023), 100cm x 100cm acrylic on canvas, mixed media.
Ever been swimming in a kelp forest? It's eerie, peaceful, and kind of otherworldly all at once. That’s what I had in mind when I painted this piece. There’s this dark, quiet energy to it—like being suspended under the surface, where the light filters through in patches and the seaweed just sways with the tide.
The layers and shadows in Kelp Forest are like navigating through that underwater world—dense, tangled, but full of life if you slow down and really look. And those pops of turquoise? Little glints of light or maybe the way your eye catches movement in the deep. It’s mysterious, but not threatening. More like a place to get lost in for a while.
This piece is a bit of an escape. Quiet, immersive, and slightly surreal—just like the real thing.
