‘Cold Day In The Sun’ (2021), 76.2cm x 101.6cm, 30”x40” acrylic on canvas, mixed media, oil pastel, pencil.

This piece was born out of contrasts — light and dark, warmth and chill, softness and edge. The title Cold Day In The Sun (yep, like the Foo Fighters track) stuck with me because it perfectly captures that weirdly beautiful feeling of bright skies but biting air. Like you're standing in sunshine, but still shivering.

The colours play with that same tension — icy blues and cloudy whites brushing up against warm flashes of pink and crimson. There’s something unsettled in it, but also peaceful — like a memory that's just out of reach.

I think it’s a painting about opposites living side by side, and how that can be beautiful too.
