‘Lancelin Dune’ (2021), Acrylic on canvas. 81.3 x 106.7cm
This piece is inspired by Lancelin, a little coastal town in Western Australia that’s famous for its huge, white sand dunes and aqua-blue water. I spent some time just watching the sea melt into the sky out there — the colours are unreal. And this painting is really about that stillness, that vast breath of space where ocean meets dune and sky just kind of drifts in.
I called it Lancelin Dune because that place left a mark — it is a place we visit frequently with our friends. If you’ve ever stood on the sand with the wind in your face and that turquoise horizon ahead of you, I think you’ll feel it in this painting too.
